Tip of the Day 7/18/11
We have hit the Dog-Days of summer; the kids are bored, hot, and tired and all they want to do is watch TV. You are bored, hot, and tired and all you want to do is watch TV. But there are still plenty of great adventures to have. Some of my favorite memories from childhood involve creating. The love to create continues today and I believe it started as a child when I was able to let my imagination soar. I always loved going to TG &Y in Tulsa (the "Five and Dime" of T-Town) and getting a new coloring book, drawing pad, crayons, craft kit, or paint-by-number set. Sometimes I would have scraps of fabric and spend hours creating Barbie clothes. My sister and I would create Barbie houses from shoe boxes and hankies. Today I still love to visit the Five and Dime in our town and look through the coloring books and kids craft kits. When my grandkids are in town I give them each $5 and let them pick whatever they want. It is fun to see how creative they are picking out something silly and cheap to play with. So, take the kids to a fun store, not one of the big box stores that you always go to, and let them pick out a fun kit or coloring book and new crayons. Try Michael's, or Joann Fabrics, Family Dollar or Dollar Tree if you don't have a good old fashioned "Five and Dime." Pick up a new coloring book or craft kit for yourself while you're there. Let's have some fun today.
